Well, I have yet to go to Arizona. The night before I was leaving I felt a tingle in my throat and I could tell I was on the brink of something a bit more funky. So, the next morning (the day of my trip) is when it began. By the weekend it was worse, spreading to chest congestion which is never fun. I haven't been that sick gosh, since I don't even know when.
Perhaps my body was telling me to chill out since the past three to four months have been a whirlwind (to say the least) as I was in limbo between Arizona, Chicago, and New York since June. Well, rather than beating myself up or being frustrated--I want to head to AZ to finish moving so I can get back to NYC to get on with my new life--I knew I needed to take good care of myself and listen to whatever my body was telling me. So, I have been taking it easy so as not push myself into some worse scenario (the cold lasting months or end up with pneumonia--no thanks!).
I have a funny story for you guys. I went to Whole Foods to stock up on some natural remedies for my cold. I loaded up on some Cold Snap, a tincture (herbs in liquid form where you use a dropper to add it to water or straight into your mouth--which is what I choose to do, though be advised it can taste kind of nasty!), some Olbas cough syrup (all natural ingredients like wild honey, peppermint, clove, and thyme oils--tastes great), and fenugreek tea. The gentleman in the Whole Body department recommended the cough syrup and tea. They help with breaking down the congestion and opening the chest. So, I went home and later that evening my dad was saying his throat was bothering him and asked if I had a tea for him. I mentioned to him the tea I bought was for chest congestion and breaking down mucus, not for a sore throat. The next morning my mom mentioned she made my dad some of the tea. He told to my mom that I said he should have some of the 'Greek' tea to help him feel better! Hahaha! I don't think he realized it was fenugreek (an herb/spice), not a 'Greek' tea. Ok, I thought it was funny, especially since he said I told him I had a nice Greek tea for him, which I never said! So funny.
Well, I am finally feeling better, though I still have my cough. I am going to Arizona this coming week and then I'll be back in New York by the first week of November. Well, at least that is the plan.
Here are some of the benefits of fenugreek: helps to reduce cholesterol, fights infection, reduces inflammation, and more. I also added some pictures of the plant and seeds.
